The Turkish get up (TGU) was an old school strength exercise where you would simply try to stand up from a laying down position with a heavy weight, which was usually some form of barbell.
Over the years the TGU exercise has been refined and we now follow a set procedure when performing this movement.
The TGU is an excellent full body functional conditioning/strengthening exercise, but it’s particularly good for developing the core as well as shoulder strength, stability and durability.
