If you’ve never trained with a leveraged tool like the mace and club, they can feel a little awkward to start with.
The further away you grip a weight from the centre of mass the heavier it feels, therefore a 4kg steel mace feels much heavier than a 4kg kettlebell or 4kg dumbbell.
Holding the mace handle closer to the mace head is known as ‘choking up’. Choking up decreases the leverage thus making the mace feel lighter and the exercise easier.
When starting out begin with a light weight to master the movement, then increase the weight once you can control, stabilise & move the steel mace dynamically.
