One of the most common questions I get asked is whether you should train with Indian clubs or steel clubs.

But here’s the thing… they’re not simply light and heavy versions of the same tool.

I train with both, and although they share some of the same movements, the way I use them in my workouts is very different.

And depending on what you’re trying to achieve with your training, choosing the wrong one could mean you’re missing out on some of the biggest benefits.

So in this week’s video, I’m breaking down the differences between Indian clubs and steel clubs, and which one I’d recommend depending on your training goals.

In this video I cover:

  • Why Indian clubs are such a good shoulder mobility, coordination and warm-up tool
  • Why steel clubs are better suited to grip strength, shoulder strength, core and rotational strength, and conditioning
  • How weight and leverage change the way each club feels and moves
  • How your grip changes, including what I call intelligent gripping
  • How your posture and stance change as the clubs get heavier
  • Why a Mill isn’t performed exactly the same with both
  • How Indian clubs and steel clubs are usually trained and how to progress
