STRUCTURE


PART 1 — What We Are Actually Assessing

Clarify immediately:

We are not testing flexibility.

We are testing:

Usable range under demand.

Then state:

Range that only exists unloaded is incomplete.

That aligns with your philosophy.


PART 2 — Active Range Assessment

Define clearly:

Active range = how far the client can move and control using muscular effort.

Explain what we observe:

• Joint segmentation

• Compensation

• Rib flare

• Lumbar extension

• Hip shift

• Loss of alignment

Keep it structural.

Not anatomical lecture.

Then reinforce:

If the body borrows movement from another joint, usable range is limited.

That’s clean and coach-friendly.


PART 3 — Loaded vs Unloaded Range

This is the key differentiator.

Explain:

Unloaded range tells us potential.

Loaded range tells us capacity.

Then clarify:

If unloaded range is full but collapses under light load → control deficit.

If range is limited even unloaded → restriction.

If loaded range improves alignment → possible stability dominance.

Then land this:

Loaded range reveals truth. Unloaded range reveals possibility.

That’s strong.


PART 4 — Multi-Planar Testing

Now layer in 3D thinking.

Explain:

Most assessments focus on sagittal plane.

Durability requires testing:

• Sagittal

• Frontal

• Transverse

Clarify:

Restriction often appears first in rotation.

Then say:

If rotation is missing, adaptability is limited.

Simple.

Defensible.


PART 5 — Asymmetry Observation

Explain:

We observe:

• Left vs right

• Dominant vs non-dominant

• Load shift

• Balance shift

Clarify:

Symmetry under bilateral movement can hide asymmetry.

Unilateral observation reveals it.

Then state:

Asymmetry is not the problem. Unmanaged asymmetry is.

That keeps tone mature.


PART 6 — Range Under Fatigue

This is important and often missed.

Explain:

Some clients display good range early.

Under fatigue:

• Compensation appears

• Depth shortens

• Rotation disappears

• Lumbar extension increases

Then state:

Fatigue exposes structural weakness faster than max load.

That’s high-level thinking.


PART 7 — Outcome of Range Assessment

End clearly:

Range assessment answers:

• Is range restricted?

• Is range accessible but unstable?

• Is range dominant relative to control and force?

Then close with:

We don’t chase flexibility.

We evaluate usable range within the durability system.

Clean.
